The square hole in ancient bronze coins is called the coin eye. The obverse of ancient coins is engraved with "招财进宝" (bringing in wealth and treasures), which means to receive wealth from all directions; the reverse is engraved with "一帆风顺" (smooth sailing), which means that everything goes smoothly.
